What is Insulet Corporation (PODD)?
Insulet Corporation is a US medical device company headquartered in Acton, Massachusetts, and founded in 2000. Its shares trade on Nasdaq under the ticker PODD and are included in S&P's broad-based US stock index. The company develops insulin delivery systems for people with diabetes.
Insulet's main product is the Omnipod system. Unlike conventional pumps, this tubeless device is worn as a small pod stuck to the body and delivers insulin continuously. The user manages the device through a phone application or a separate controller. The system can also be used together with continuous glucose monitors through an algorithm that adjusts the insulin dose automatically. The product was first developed for type one diabetes and has over time also been offered to users with type two diabetes. Because the pods are replaced at regular intervals, a recurring sales structure arises.
Those following Insulet stock usually watch the trend in new users, health insurance reimbursement decisions and competing diabetes technologies. On the PODD page at Lzzo.com the share price is shown in US dollars, and the page also offers a historical price chart and technical indicators.
