The company's assets are grouped into three main regions. The Grasberg minerals district in the Papua region of Indonesia is operated by PT Freeport Indonesia, which is jointly owned with the Indonesian state, and produces large amounts of gold in addition to copper. In North America are open-pit copper mines in Arizona and New Mexico as well as molybdenum mines. In South America are Cerro Verde in Peru and operations in Chile. The company sells its products to smelters, refineries and industrial buyers.
