What is FirstEnergy Corp. (FE)?
FirstEnergy Corp. is a US electricity company headquartered in Akron, Ohio. The company emerged in 1997 from the merger of Ohio Edison and Centerior Energy. Its shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker FE and are included in S&P's broad-based US stock index. Today it is a regulated company focused on transmission and distribution more than on power generation.
FirstEnergy's distribution companies supply electricity to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey. The group's transmission arm operates high-voltage lines and substations within the region. Tariffs and investment plans are subject to approval by state and federal regulators, so the company's income depends largely on the return that regulatory decisions allow on network investment.
Those following FirstEnergy stock usually watch rate case filings, grid modernization investments and electricity demand from data centers. On the FE page at Lzzo.com the share price is shown in US dollars, and the page also includes a price chart and technical indicators.
