What is Ameren Corporation (AEE)?
Ameren Corporation is an electricity and natural gas utility holding company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The company was formed in 1997 through the merger of Union Electric and CIPSCO. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker AEE, and it is a member of the S&P 500 index.
The group's activities consist of three regulated lines. Ameren Missouri generates and distributes electricity in Missouri and also supplies natural gas; the company's Callaway nuclear energy center is among the generation assets of this line. Ameren Illinois distributes electricity and natural gas to homes and businesses in Illinois. Ameren Transmission manages the interregional electricity transmission lines. The generation portfolio includes coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, wind and solar sources, and the company plans to reduce its coal-based capacity gradually.
When following Ameren stock, rate decisions by Missouri and Illinois regulators, progress on grid and generation investments and electricity demand in the region are taken into account.
