Product information
What is S&P/TSX Composite Index (S&P/TSX)?
The S&P/TSX Composite Index is a stock index covering a broad portion of the Canadian companies traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). It is calculated jointly by S&P Dow Jones Indices and TMX Group, the owner of the TSX, and is the main gauge used to sum up the overall state of the Canadian stock market.
The structure of the Canadian economy is reflected in the index's composition: banks and insurers, energy producers, and mining and commodity companies hold a large place in it. As a result, the S&P/TSX Composite is more sensitive than many developed-market indices to changes in crude oil, gold and base metal prices. Railway and technology companies are also among its constituents.
Bank of Canada interest rate decisions, trade relations with the US and the path of the Canadian dollar are the main factors considered when following the index. On Lzzo.com, the index value is shown in points using Yahoo Finance data; this value is not a share or fund price.
