What is B3 Bovespa Index (Bovespa)?
The Bovespa Index (Ibovespa) is the index made up of high-volume shares traded on B3, Brazil's stock exchange based in São Paulo. Calculated since 1968, the Ibovespa is regarded as the main performance gauge of the Brazilian stock market. It is a total return index: dividends are counted as if they were reinvested in a theoretical portfolio.
The Brazilian economy's reliance on commodity exports is reflected in the index's composition: oil, iron ore and other mining companies, along with banks, carry marked weight. As a result, the Ibovespa is sensitive to global factors such as commodity prices and Chinese demand. Constituents are selected according to trading volume and trading frequency over a given period and are renewed periodically.
Central Bank of Brazil interest rate decisions, inflation, developments in public finances and the value of the real are also decisive for the index's path. On Lzzo.com, the Bovespa Index is shown in points using Yahoo Finance data; it is not a share or fund price.
