The USD/CHF pair shows how many Swiss francs one US dollar is worth. The Swiss franc is the official currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein and is managed by the Swiss National Bank (SNB). In the market it is also known by the nickname 'Swissie'.

Thanks to political stability, a strong external balance and a long-established banking system, the franc is known as a safe-haven currency sought in periods of uncertainty. The SNB has stated that it has at times intervened in the currency market to limit the effect of an overvalued franc on exporters and price stability.

Relatively low inflation in Switzerland usually keeps interest rates low as well.
