What is Brazilian Real / Turkish Lira (BRL/TRY)?
BRL/TRY expresses the Turkish lira value of Brazil's currency, the real. The real is managed by the Central Bank of Brazil (Banco Central do Brasil). It entered circulation in 1994 under the Plano Real program, introduced to fight high inflation; the country has operated a floating exchange rate regime since 1999.
Brazil is a significant exporter of commodities such as soybeans, iron ore, crude oil, coffee and sugar, so the real is a currency sensitive to commodity prices and Chinese demand. Because the central bank's policy rate, the Selic, is often kept at high levels among emerging economies, the real can also be favored in interest rate differential trades. Developments in public finances affect the rate as well.
The BRL/TRY rate reflects both the real's path against the dollar and the Turkish lira's general trend. The BRL/TRY value shown on Lzzo.com is an informational cross rate derived from market exchange rates; it is not a bank buy/sell price.
