What is Diem?
Diem (DIEM) is an asset through which the privacy-focused AI service Venice turns access to its compute into token form, and it is issued on the Base network. Despite the similar name, it has no connection to the Diem stablecoin project that Meta once announced and later shelved. DIEM is designed as a second asset alongside VVV, the main token of the Venice ecosystem.
According to Venice, DIEM can only be minted when VVV is staked and that stake is additionally locked. Each staked DIEM gives its holder usage credit of a fixed US dollar amount on the Venice API, renewed every day; this lets developers and AI agents use model inference without paying per request. Venice sets a target for the total DIEM supply and may update it; the token can also be bought and sold on decentralized exchanges on Base.
The value of DIEM is closely tied to usage demand for the Venice API, the cost of the service that the daily credit represents, the price of VVV and the locking conditions, and any changes Venice makes to its supply target. CoinGecko also displays a warning that the contract owner has the authority to make changes to the token. The Lzzo.com page shows DefiLlama's US dollar reference price and a historical chart drawn from the same source.
