What is Aptos (APT)?
Aptos is a layer-one blockchain that runs smart contracts written in the Move programming language. A significant part of the team building the network previously worked on the Diem project run within Meta; the Move language is also inherited from that project. The network aims to provide infrastructure for payments, decentralized finance and consumer applications with high transaction capacity and low fees. APT is the native token of the Aptos network.
A notable technical feature of Aptos is its parallel execution engine called Block-STM: transactions are first run simultaneously in an optimistic manner, and those in which a conflict is detected are re-executed. The Move language, meanwhile, models assets as resources that cannot be copied, aiming to prevent some common contract bugs. APT is used to pay transaction fees (gas), to secure the network by being staked with validators or delegation pools, and in on-chain governance votes.
The APT price can be affected by factors such as user and application activity on the network, supply changes from regular token unlocks and staking rewards, competition with rival Move-based networks and general market conditions. The dollar price on Lzzo.com's Aptos page comes from the APT/USDT pair traded on Binance and is converted at Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD rate; the chart tracks this converted price.
