affine

affine (SN120) is the alpha token of Affine, a subnet on the decentralized AI network Bittensor. On Bittensor, each subnet focuses on a specific AI task and, since the Dynamic TAO upgrade, has its own token; the number in the SN120 symbol is the subnet's registration number within the network. Affine's goal is to encourage the development of open-weight AI models that reason better through reinforcement learning.

In the subnet, miners register the model weights they train on-chain, and validators test these models against the current champion model across a set of challenging evaluation environments. To receive the bulk of the rewards, a model has to succeed not merely at answering requests but at beating the current champion by a clear margin in every environment. This tournament-like structure aims to tie rewards to genuine performance improvement. Alpha tokens are traded against TAO in the relevant subnet's pool and are the means of supporting a subnet through staking.

Subnet token prices depend on the quality of the models a subnet produces, the TAO flowing into the subnet, new token issuance and the depth of pool liquidity, and they can be highly volatile.
