What is CME Lumber Futures (LBR)?
The lumber futures contract tracks the price of softwood (coniferous) lumber, widely used in North America for the timber frames of houses. In the US, where wood-frame home building is common, lumber demand is closely linked to housing starts, renovation spending and mortgage rates; on the supply side, output from sawmills in Canada and the US, wildfires, transport conditions and trade tariffs are decisive.
CME Group's lumber contract with the code LBR began trading in August 2022 and is sized to match a single truckload. The contract is physically delivered to the Chicago Switching District; deliverable species include stamped SPF (a spruce, pine and fir mix), Douglas fir, Hem-Fir and Fir-Larch. The price is quoted in US dollars and cents per thousand board feet.
The value shown on Lzzo.com is based on front-month lumber contract (LBR=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance and is presented in US dollars. The contract price belongs to the North American wholesale market; it does not directly reflect prices of lumber, plywood or particleboard sold in Türkiye.
