What is Copper Spot (HG)?
Copper is a base metal widely used in electrical cables, building installations, electronics, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and industrial machinery because of its high electrical conductivity. Because its use spreads across so many areas of economic activity, it is known in the market by the nickname 'Dr. Copper', and its price is often read as an indicator of global growth.
Chile and Peru are among the main mine producers, while China sits at the center of demand with its refined copper consumption and processing capacity. For this reason, Chinese construction and manufacturing data, disruptions in mine supply, investment in the energy transition and inventory levels are the main factors affecting the copper price. Copper also trades heavily on the London Metal Exchange (LME) and in Shanghai.
The copper value on Lzzo.com is based on COMEX copper futures (HG=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance; this contract is priced per pound (lb). Ton-based prices on the LME and selling prices for physical copper are formed in different units and under different conditions.
