What is Yum! Brands, Inc. (YUM)?
Yum! Brands is a US restaurant company headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker YUM, and the company is included in the S&P 500 index. It emerged in 1997 as an independent company when the restaurant businesses of PepsiCo were separated, and took its current name in 2002. Its restaurants in China were transferred to a separate company, Yum China, in 2016.
Yum! Brands has brought the KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Habit Burger & Grill brands under its roof. The great majority of the restaurants are run not by the company itself but by independent franchise operators, so the company's income rests mainly on franchise fees and brand royalties. In 2026 the company signed agreements to sell the Pizza Hut brand; the status of the sale can be followed through the company's announcements.
Those following Yum! Brands stock typically watch same-store sales at the restaurants, the pace of new restaurant openings, the course of consumer spending, and portfolio changes among the brands. On the YUM page at Lzzo.com, the price is shown in US dollars, and the page includes a historical price chart and technical indicators.
