Carrefour SA is a French retail company headquartered in Massy, near Paris. Its first store opened near Annecy in 1960, and one of the first hypermarkets in France began operating in 1963. Its shares trade on Euronext Paris under the ticker CA, and the company is part of the main stock index of the Paris exchange, the CAC.
Carrefour sells food and non-food products in different store formats such as hypermarkets, supermarkets and neighborhood convenience stores. The company's main markets are France, Spain and Brazil; in Brazil the wholesale chain Atacadão is also part of the group. Besides store sales, online shopping and own-brand products are offered. Affiliates such as Carrefour Banque provide financial services such as cards and loans to consumers. Sales formats differ according to consumer habits in each region.
