What is Arm Holdings plc (ARM)?
Arm Holdings plc is a semiconductor design company based in Cambridge, England. The majority stake belongs to Japan's SoftBank Group. The company went public in 2023, and its American depositary shares (ADS) trade in the US on Nasdaq under the ticker ARM.
Arm does not make chips under its own name; it licenses to chip companies the processor architecture and ready-made processor core designs used in many devices, from smartphones to data centers. Its income comes from two sources: license fees paid for access to the designs and royalties charged on every chip produced with these designs. The company has recently been trying to raise the amount it earns per chip through compute subsystems that bundle multiple cores and components. Besides mobile devices, the data center, automotive and personal computer markets are growth areas.
For ARM stock, trends in the smartphone market, the share of Arm-based designs in server processors, changes in royalty rates, legal disputes with licensees and operations in China are watched. The Lzzo.com page offers the price in US dollars, a chart and technical indicators.
