What is Aflac Incorporated (AFL)?
Aflac Incorporated is an insurance holding company headquartered in Columbus, Georgia. Its roots go back to the American Family Life Assurance Company, founded in 1955. Its shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker AFL and the company is included in the S&P 500.
Aflac sells supplemental products designed to cover costs that fall outside what regular health insurance pays. In the United States it offers policies such as accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness and short-term disability through workplaces. Aflac Japan sells cancer and medical insurance as well as life insurance products and forms an important part of the company. The duck in its advertising campaigns is a familiar face of the brand.
