What is Russell 2000 Index (Russell 2000)?
The Russell 2000 is an index calculated by FTSE Russell and made up of the shares of small-cap companies traded in the US. It represents the small-company segment of the broader Russell stock universe and has been published since 1984. FTSE Russell is an index provider belonging to the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
Small-cap companies usually generate a significant share of their sales within the US and rely more heavily on bank loans for financing. As a result, the Russell 2000 can offer a different picture from large-company indices about the strength of domestic demand and changes in interest rate conditions. The composition is updated through FTSE Russell's periodic reconstitutions.
On Lzzo.com, the Russell 2000 is shown in points using Yahoo Finance data. The index is not a price but a gauge that tracks the change in the combined value of its constituents; prices of funds and futures products linked to the index differ from this level. Because small company shares tend to be more volatile, this index can also reflect shifts in risk appetite.
