What is British Pound / US Dollar (GBP/USD)?
GBP/USD shows how many US dollars one British pound is worth. In the market it is known by the nickname 'Cable'; the name dates from the nineteenth century, when exchange rate information between London and New York was transmitted by a telegraph cable running under the Atlantic.
The pound is managed by the Bank of England and the dollar by the Fed. The gap between the two banks' interest rate paths, UK inflation and wage data, developments in public finances and US employment reports are the main factors that set the pair's direction. Because of London's central role in global currency trading, the pair is heavily traded and highly liquid.
The pound went through marked swings around the UK's 2016 referendum and the subsequent process of leaving the European Union; political developments therefore still matter when following the pair. The GBP/USD value on Lzzo.com is a market reference rate sourced from Yahoo Finance and is not a substitute for a bank or exchange office buy/sell price.
