Wormhole

Wormhole is a messaging protocol that enables data and token transfers between Solana, Ethereum, Sui and many other blockchains. Cross-chain messages are observed and approved by a network of validator nodes called Guardians. The Portal bridge, built on the protocol, lets users move their assets between networks.

W is the governance token of Wormhole and was distributed through an airdrop in April 2024. The token exists natively on several networks, chiefly Solana and Ethereum, and transfers between these networks are handled by Wormhole's own infrastructure. Token holders can take part in decisions on protocol parameters and the use of the treasury. The protocol suffered a serious security breach in 2022, and the losses were later made good.
