Alloy Tether

Alloy by Tether is a product structure that Tether calls a Tethered Asset: users could deposit the gold token Tether Gold (XAU₮) as collateral and mint the aUSD₮ token, which was intended to track a value in US dollars. The structure aims to follow the price of the reference asset through stabilization methods such as overcollateralization and secondary market liquidity pools. The token was issued on Ethereum.

In its June 2026 announcement, Tether said it would wind down Alloy by Tether and aUSD₮. With the announcement, the option to open new positions and mint new aUSD₮ was removed; existing users were given a three-month window to return their aUSD₮ and take back their XAU₮ collateral. That window ended in September 2026, and according to Tether, XAU₮ backing aUSD₮ that was not returned by that date can no longer be recovered through the platform.

For this reason, aUSD₮ is no longer a product being minted; secondary market trading and price information may be limited or unreliable. Tether stated that it is redirecting its resources to products with broader demand, such as Tether Gold.
