Pearl

Pearl is a crypto asset tracked under the symbol PRL that has its own blockchain. The official page of Pearl Research Labs describes the network as a Bitcoin-style layer one that derives its proof of work from actual AI computation. The project calls this approach Proof-of-Useful-Work: the matrix multiplication operations that graphics processors perform during AI training and inference are turned into mining work that at the same time secures the network.

PRL is the native coin issued through this mining process. The team publishes the network's source code in an open repository and shares technical papers describing the protocol design and economics. Pearl Research also operates a paid inference service for open-source models; according to the company's page, a model endpoint running on Pearl's useful proof of work is also offered on Together AI.

The security and economic balance of the mining mechanism rest on the project's own research; independently verified long-term data is limited. It should not be confused with the similarly named Pearl swap protocol, which DefiLlama tracks as a decentralized exchange.
