## What is PPG Industries, Inc. (PPG)?

PPG Industries, Inc. is a US paint and coatings company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its roots go back to the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, founded in 1883; over time the company moved out of glass production and focused on coatings. Its shares trade on the NYSE under the ticker PPG and are included in S&P's broad-based US stock index.

PPG's operations are tracked in two segments. The Performance Coatings segment covers aerospace, protective and marine coatings, vehicle refinish paints and, in some regions, decorative paints. The Industrial Coatings segment includes coatings used on automobile production lines, packaging coatings and specialty coatings for general industry. Because the products serve the surface protection and appearance of buildings, vehicles, aircraft and consumer goods, sales are closely tied to the construction, automotive and manufacturing cycles.
